COMMITTEE
The Woodturners Association of Western Australia, a not-for-profit organisation, was formed by a group of 18 woodturning hobbyists in August 1985 and has since grown to approximately 500 members, within 12 groups, spread across Perth’s suburbs and the State’s Southwestern region.
The groups take turns in hosting the monthly workshop that includes presentations, demonstrations and the monthly competition. As a community-based organisation, the Association and the groups accede to many requests for demonstrations at Shows, Fairs and Fetes and has conducted workshops in 30 metropolitan and country centres.
The groups hold weekly or bi-weekly meetings, similar to the weekend workshops, that include competitions presentations, demonstrations and hands-on sessions together with social activities such as sausage sizzles, BBQs etc.
Although initially set up to promote the ancient craft of woodturning the activities of the Association now include scroll-sawing, hand/chip carving, pyrography, segmentation and a number of sub-groups have been created.
